Why adopt from MAPS?

Adoption is an act of love.

We are here for animals that have nowhere else to go. They arrive at our shelter for a variety of reasons, but no matter the circumstances, they’re all patiently waiting for the same things: love, security, and a family to call their own. That’s where you come in.

When you adopt, you’re giving one loving animal the second chance it deserves — and freeing up shelter resources to help another animal in need. Every day, dogs, cats, and critters are euthanized at shelters across the U.S. simply because there’s nobody willing to adopt them. We work hard to make sure that’s not the case in our community. Thanks to our amazing adopters, every year we are able to find placement for hundreds of homeless animals.

We are so fortunate and proud to serve a community that widely supports animals through adoption.

We are by appointment only

During the pandemic, we noticed a lot of benefits to being open to visitors by appointment only. The most important reason for this change is it’s better for our animals! We, and many other shelters, have discovered that animals are more content, relaxed and less stressed without a lot of people walking through the building. Constant traffic and noise creates stress and interrupts sleeping, feeding and exercise schedules. We pride ourselves on keeping our animals as comfortable as possible to ensure they remain happy and healthy while they wait for their forever homes.

For adoptions, requiring potential adopters to complete our adoption application first also has its benefits. It allows us time to review applications and determine the best possible match for the family before they come to visit our pets. This method also gives adopters a more personal adoption experience by allowing staff to guide the adopter to which pet may be best for their home.

Finally, by scheduling appointments, our staff can better plan their day. We are a small staff of only four employees with many tasks to complete throughout the day. Scheduled appointments helps us determine timeframes and gives us the opportunity to spend more one on one time providing animals with the care they deserve.

If you have any questions regarding this or anything else about what we do and why we do it, please contact us.

Do you have a donation to drop off?

Please refer to our list of items we will and will not accept HERE.

Donations can be dropped off in our entryway at the shelter any time. The outer door is always open and our donation bin is on the left side.

If you have a large donation from an event and would like a photo with recognition on our Facebook page, please contact us to schedule a day and time.
